Billboard announced that SKILLET will be releasing their first independent album, "REVOLUTION," on November 1, 2024. This marks a significant milestone for the band as they venture into independence after 20 successful years with Atlantic Records. The new album promises to continue the band's legacy, featuring ten tracks that capture the essence of their unique sound and message.
The album's first single, "Unpopular," premiered yesterday on Billboard and Sirius XM’s Octane channel. The track, accompanied by a music video, is now available across all digital streaming platforms (DSPs). Fans can also pre-order the full album on CD and Vinyl starting today.
“Unpopular” is a hard-hitting track with a powerful message. According to lead singer John Cooper, the song addresses the feeling of not belonging in today's digital age. "So many people don’t have a place to belong. Our communities are online now, which contributes to the loneliness," Cooper explains. He emphasizes the societal pressures and the division created by influential figures who dictate how people should live their lives. "They deem us ‘unpopular’. In reality, we agree more than we disagree as a society".
"REVOLUTION" is expected to extend SKILLET’s formidable legacy. The band has received two GRAMMY® nominations, a Billboard Music Award, and has landed three albums in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200. They have sold over 22 million units worldwide, with over 24 billion global streams to date. Their latest RIAA Gold certifications include the tracks “Legendary” and “Stars”.
After 20 years on Atlantic Records, SKILLET has embraced their newfound independence, writing and recording the album at their own pace. They collaborated with longtime producers Brian Howes and Seth Mosely, as well as band member Korey Cooper and YOUTHYEAR/Carlo Colasacco, to bring these tracks to life. The album features a mix of arena songs and nostalgic tracks that reflect the band's journey.
In conjunction with the album release, SKILLET has also launched a new app today. The app offers fans early access to tickets, exclusive content, message boards, and more. This innovative platform aims to strengthen the band's connection with their global fanbase.
SKILLET has also announced an exciting tour lineup. They will hit the road this fall with another top-selling rock band, SEETHER, followed by their first-ever tour of the Middle East in November. This tour will include performances in Turkey, Kazakhstan, and the United Arab Emirates. Following this, SKILLET will support Black Stone Cherry on several dates across the UK. Tickets for all shows are now available on their official website, Skillet.com
With the release of "REVOLUTION," SKILLET is poised to make a significant impact as independent artists. Their new single "Unpopular" is just the beginning of what promises to be a revolutionary era for the band. Fans can look forward to a blend of powerful music and meaningful messages that resonate with the challenges of today's world. Pre-orders for the album are now open, and the band's new app provides a unique way for fans to engage with their favorite rockers.
