Shamash – The Gulf Between Us: a new single, a new era, a renewed vision

Shamash, a band rooted in the dual intensity of Melodic Death Metal and Metalcore, is about to enter its boldest chapter yet. On October 3, 2025, the single The Gulf Between Us will be released worldwide under Rottweiler Records. This release is more than just another step forward – it is a milestone, sharper and heavier than their past output, and deeply infused with themes of distance, fracture, and eventual redemption.

Shamash — The Gulf Between Us What is “The Gulf Between Us” about?

The song captures the essence of separation – the void between two sides, whether in personal relationships, society, or faith. Shamash paints the portrait of standing at the edge of despair, looking into silence, but refusing to stay there. Instead, the track charts a journey forward, one that seeks bridges rather than chasms, and hope instead of resignation. Musically, it balances aggression with melody, brutality with longing, making it a hymn to the difficult yet necessary act of reconciliation.

Production – precision meets heart

The single was engineered by JD Wong of 21:05 Productions, also guitarist of Malaysian rock icons Pop Shuvit. His meticulous craft brought depth and impact, ensuring both heaviness and clarity. Darren Teh, bassist, backing vocalist, and producer for Shamash, oversaw the production. Known also for his work with the award-winning pop-punk project An Honest Mistake, Teh shaped the sound from within the band, making sure it remained authentic, intense, and unified.

Songwriting and emotional weight

The Gulf Between Us was co-written by Darren Teh and vocalist André Chiang. Teh provided structure and melodic discipline, while Chiang delivered unfiltered emotion through his commanding vocal performance. Their chemistry resulted in a song that is both technically refined and emotionally raw, a reflection of universal struggles with separation, healing, and rebirth.

A new lineup, a stronger Shamash

This single introduces Shamash’s refreshed lineup after their last major release, Done with Misery: Nos Pergamos in Domine Saluteum. Alongside Chiang (vocals) and Teh (bass, backing vocals, production), the roster includes Steven Thang (lead guitar), Puvan Sivanasan (rhythm guitar), and Alexander Martin (rhythm guitar). The expanded guitar section reinforces their dynamic sound and pushes the band’s heaviness to new heights.

With plans already underway for their next full-length album in collaboration with JD Wong and 21:05 Productions, the band is set to push their sound further than ever before. This single is both a milestone and a promise: Shamash is here to stay, and the best chapters are still ahead.
