Glenn Rogers: Primal’s Relentless Road and Next Moves

On a sweltering August night, the Sunset Strip hums with a familiar electricity. Inside the Whisky a Go Go, the crowd is already buzzing—leather, denim, and anticipation thick in the air. For Primal, this isn’t just another gig. It’s a statement: the band is alive, kicking, and barreling forward.

Primal Iron AgePrimal’s story is a patchwork of heavy metal lineage. With Alberto Zamarbide at the helm (the legendary voice behind V8 and Logos), guitar veteran Glenn Rogers (Deliverance, Heretic, Hirax), bassist Cesar Ceregatti (Steel Vengeance), and drummer Jorge Iacobellis (TTM, Hirax), the band reads like a who’s-who of underground metal. Their latest EP, “Iron Age,” landed with a punch—seven tracks that fuse the grit of traditional metal with the raw surge of thrash. Critics have called it “a fierce blend of classic heavy metal and Latin American intensity” (KNAC).

But for Primal, the work never stops. Glenn Rogers reveals, “We’ve been rehearsing a lot for the Whisky show. We’ve got a setlist of about ten songs. I’ve heard it’ll be recorded and filmed—maybe there’s a live album in the future.” The August 21st show at the legendary Whisky a Go Go, with Heretic headlining, feels like a homecoming and a new chapter all at once.

The band’s reach doesn’t end with the Sunset Strip. On October 25, Primal will storm Mérida, Yucatán, as part of Hunab Ku Fest, sharing the stage with a roster of international acts. “I hope this opens doors for us to return in 2026,” says Rogers. “Our singer Beto [Zamarbide] goes back to Argentina in September for some solo shows celebrating the anniversaries of V8 and Logos. I think after that, Primal will be back, stronger than ever.”

Rogers lets slip another secret—new music is brewing. “I’ve started writing songs for a new release. Not sure if it’ll be an EP or LP yet. We’re also looking for more shows in 2026, maybe Europe and South America.” Primal’s sound—a potent mix of traditional metal and thrash—remains untamed. “Thrash will always be part of our DNA,” Glenn insists. “It’s what I’m known for. It’s got to stay heavy.”

In the middle of all this, real life intrudes. As the band looks ahead, news arrives of Ozzy Osbourne’s passing. Rogers pauses, visibly moved. “Sad news about Ozzy. I think he went out on top after his last show. We’ll miss him.”

As September nears, Zamarbide’s Argentine fans ready for a celebration of milestones—V8’s “Un Paso Más En La Batalla” and Logos’ “Generación Mutante.” Primal, meanwhile, is tuning up for what feels like a new era. Will it be a live album? New EP? Full LP? The answer, as always with this band, is: stay tuned.
